Overview

Deep in the cloud forest, near one of the cleanest rivers in Central America, there’s a community growing organic coffee farms one plant at a time. On this program you’ll experience the cool, lush, mountain forest and life in a rural agricultural community. Volunteer alongside families in their fields, hike the scenic hillsides, stop into one of the most perfect surfing beaches in the world, and learn about development challenges in Costa Rica.

Community Service

Our community service projects focus on improving sustainable farming methods for family operated ecological coffee farms in a beautiful mountain community. We'll partner with local families who are committed to change and work together to build organic coffee cooperatives through community service and environmental programs. We may also have the opportunity to contribute toward cementing projects that will improve the community's infrastructure and help kids get to school in the rainy season.

Hands-On Learning

In a rural mountain community, the traditions and customs are unique even to other parts of the country. As a farming town, life is slower so there’s lots of time for informal interactions with the locals. People in town are incredibly friendly and happy to meet you! You’ll learn how to cook alongside a local, dance to music performed live, and walk among the coffee crops. Soccer is a part of the social fabric of town so it’s very likely you will engage in an impromptu game at some point!

Adventure

Costa Rica has no shortage of opportunities to get your adrenaline pumping! On this program, you’ll zip line through the treetops of the forest and visit an epic adventure park. An excursion to Manuel Antonio National Park will even give you the opportunity to experience wildlife up-close. You’ll also see how coffee is grown and produced, and have a chance to taste it. Along the way, you'll take eco tours of Costa Rica’s world-class beaches, learn to surf and spend your afternoons hiking through gorgeous mountain forests.

Lodging

Carved into the hillside, our home-base is nestled in between a river, the dense cloud-forest, and hillsides covered with coffee bushes. The eco-lodge structure was built by hand using almost exclusively locally sourced materials and with the help of craftsmen you’re likely to meet. The best part is the balcony that overlooks a valley that always has clouds rising from its base and the cleanest river in Central America.
