Level:  Mid-level (2+ years experience)

Who are we?

Terra Education is a mission-driven B-Corporation and Educational Holding company that operates three business lines:

  • Global Leadership Adventures (GLA) – www.experiencegla.com:  GLA operates open enrollment and group service-learning programs for High School students in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe.  GLA’s mission is to inspire the next generation to realize their potential to transform the world and their role in it.
  • Discover Corps (DC) – www.discovercorps.com:  DC operates vacation programs for families and adult travelers that provide a combination of service and immersive cultural activities.
  • Summer Springboard (SSB) – www.summerspringboard.com:  SSB is our latest addition; it operates pre-college enrichment programs for High School students at Berkeley and Yale.

The position we are looking to fill

Historically all marketing & sales efforts of the company have focused on the US.  However, as we have commenced to develop GLA’s Groups business, and commenced operations with SSB, we now look for a Far East Key Account Manager.  The focus of this position would be twofold:

  • Serve as contact with High Schools and other institutions in the region that want to enhance their curriculum with GLA’s educational programs.  Practically this means developing and maintaining relationships with school leaders and educators, tailoring program content to suit the curriculum, and working with our programs department to ensure programs deliver fully to expectations.
  • Promote SSB’s programs to resellers and High Schools across the region.

About the role

  • If you like to wear various hats, this is a great opportunity for you!  This position requires face-to-face meetings, in-person and remote presentations, and providing phone support to client groups.  You represent Terra Education across the whole region!
  • If you are looking for a predictable 8-5 work environment, this won’t be the right fit.  You will work flexible hours but ultimately the needs of our customers determine working hours, and evenings and weekends are no exception – especially in peak sales season or when providing on-call program support while a client group is travelling.  Ultimately, we strive for superior customer services at all times!
  • You will meet with hundreds of prospective clients, but in the end will probably end up with a limited set of anchor clients who you build trusted long-term relations with
  • You will be CLOSING sales and walking groups through every step of the process; this includes keeping clients excited during the pre-travel phase and acting as key liasion while clients are travelling
  • You will be part of our the larger Terra team; in the end success is a team effort:  you will liase with the GLA program department to tailor programs and rope in our core GLA sales and programs team to present to key prospects

Detailed responsibilities

  • Build and maintain an accurate and complete sales database – for schools, resellers and other potential clients.  As needed, collect information / do cold calls to collect relevant information about students and institutions educational needs
  • Leverage Terra’s extended ecosystem to identify existing connections that can help the entry with potential clients
  • Early-on identify the potential value of prospective clients and focus your efforts accordingly
  • Approach potential clients within the region and make visits and presentations
  • Listen carefully to understand clients needs and tailor our offerings accordingly
  • Regularly check-in with existing clients to ensure these relationships stay fresh and meaningful
  • Create and follow through on call plans
  • Develop key relationships and reputation within the educational space beyond the interaction with clients
  • Attend conferences where useful to build promising contacts / deepen relationships / close sales
  • Present and answer questions for groups of students and parents

Work Environment:

  • HQ is in San Diego, CA
  • This position will work from home which will be somewhere in the Far East (Japan/China/Taiwan/Korea)

Work Environment:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree
  • Sales experience!  You must have at least two years of direct sales and customer service experience – ideally, you have done consultative sales.  Experience with phone-based sales is also a plus
  • Customer service experience, with a focus on understanding the consumer mindset in the experimental education and/or pre-college enrichment market.  In terms of experimental education, this could have been guiding groups yourself in the past  to having tailored programs to a school’s curricular needs previously.  In terms of pre-college enrichment, experience in the Admission Office of a top US University would be great
  • International experience (study/volunteer/work) and passionate about travel and experiential education
  • Deep familiarity with the US Academic system and access requirements and opportunities
  • Experience with hosting and coordinating events such as fairs, open houses, conferences
  • Understanding of the study abroad market and can identify opportunities for growth and change

  • Technical competency with document editing software (Microsoft Word, Google Docs). If you’ve ever worked with a CRM (such as Salesforce.com or ACT), that’s a big plus!

Compensation:

Compensation is based on experience. Are you entrepreneurial, motivated and passionate about international education? If so, then you’ll do well and earn towards the high side of the spectrum.  In addition, if you meet your annual goals you will be eligible for company sponsored travel to visit one of our programs.
